I was thrilled to discover that this book is not only well-written and informative, but a thorough study of the benefits of pet ownership from countless perspectives. I will admit that I've had exposure to most of the thoughts and theories within this work, but never in such a comprehensive, cohesive and "from the heart" manner.

The authors, Christine Hamer and Peg Hevel, have woven a thoughtful and thought provoking study of the numerous benefits of pet ownership. They have incorporated their own experiences as well as stories they have gathered from interviews, to illustrate the enrichment, joy and, at times, pain of the strong bonds between pets and children, teens, families and the elderly.
This work flows seamlessly and is a pleasant, easy read.




Christine Hamer, M.S., CCBC, holds a Master's Degree in Animal Behavior, numerous certifications and board positions and currently works with canines as a trainer and behaviorist.



Margaret Hamel R.N., B.S.N., P.H.N, has worked as a Nurse Health Educator, a community/family liason and as a family counselor.

Both bring their deep love of animals and strong foundation in education to this work, pushing beyond pet basics and leaving their readers with solid perspectives and proven parenting advice.





Parenting with Pets is written honestly, with real understanding of the joys and challenges facing both families and individuals. Potty training our kitten started out as a nightmare. She spent about 2 weeks going #2 behind our bedroom door before I decided to place a small litter box there and slowly moved it to her "sisters" litter box. worked
