Sarah McLachlan returns to us from a seven year hiatus and delivers Laws of Illusion to her fans. Her most recent prior offering was in 2003, with the release of double platinum Afterglow.
This newest gift, as her previous work, contains both songs written by Sarah herself, as well as collaborations between herself and Pierre Marchland. Sarah's glorious woody and mellow vocals lead her fans on a journey of heartbreak, regret, acceptance, remembrance and discovery. My favorite track is U Want Me 2.
As we have come to expect, Sarah's vocal are haunting yet enchanting and caressing. As usual, I find myself wishing she would allow her spectacular voice to carry her songs. I appreciate the quality and talent presented by the accompanying instruments, but find their brightness creates a buffer that prevents the listeners from experiencing the full effect of her emotional vocals.
Sarah is also returning to historic all-female Lilith Fair as main stage headliner. The tour kicked off on June 27th in Calgary, Alberta. Sarah McLachlan founded this tour in 1997. The tour raised over $10 million for national and women's charities from 1997 until 1999. She is joined on tour by such talent as Beth Orton, Brandi Carlile, Carly Simon, Cat Power, Go-Go's, Loretta Lynn, Jill Scott, Mary J. Bilge.
Sarah McLachlan's twenty-two year music career has not only enchanting her fans, but has been incredibly successful, producing over 20 million sales from her compilation of albums, each of which have either been certified gold, platinum or multi-platinum by the RIAA.
