When my children were younger and we ran into a conflict, I would jokingly tell them, "Really ~ that is how (it) has to be. Says so right in the Mom book!" I'd hold up a dictionary and share with them that it was the Mom's Book of Rules and shrug, as if to say "sorry, Charlie".
After the conflict subsided, we would have a two sided conversation about the "why" behind the appropriate choice or behavior.
Of course, this only lasted until they could read. Then they were on to me and my Mom tricks!
Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a real Mom book?
