Renew Your Skin ~ Exuviance Performance Peel ~ Review & Giveaway

Whether you are the mother of a young child or a grandmother, you are intimately familiar with fresh, new skin.

So soft, tender and perfect...
before the effects of sun, stress, age, diet and pollution do their worst.

It happens to all of us, while in varying degrees,
our skin,
our face
is a canvas.

Though this canvas does not always tell the story we want it to , does it?

After the single most challenging year of my life,
and believe me, it's had some competition,
and important part of moving forward is self care,
pampering me!

In this spirit, I am pleased to introduce my readers to a fabulous renewing product from the NeoStrata Exuviance line ~ Exuviance Performance Peel AP25.

While no product will return your skin to it's original, infant quality state, Exuviance Performance Peel AP 25 is scientifically designed to remove the dead and dull layers of surface skin to allow your inner beauty to shine through.

The creators of the original Glycolic Acid peel introduce a high performance peel that is safe and easy to use at home. The Exuviance Performance Peel AP25 contains a 25% blend of Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) and Polyhydroxy Acids (PHA) including Glycolic Acid, Mandelic Acid and Gluconolactone. Performance Peel AP25 not only works at skin's surface to exfoliate dead, dull surface layers, it also stimulates the process of cell renewal among all layers, to reveal fresher, healthier cells. With regular use, up to twice a week, this peel has been clinically proven to:
  • Refine pore size and smooth texture
  • Visibly diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improve clarity and brightness
  • Brighten and even skin tone
  • Provide an all-over healthy glow, suppleness and smoothness to skin

The Exuviance Performance Peel AP25 contains 12 peels (a 6 week supply), which can be used up to twice a week on face, backs of hands, neck, chest and body.
Clinical Results:
Clinical studies indicate that after using the Exuviance Performance Peel AP25 after one month of twice weekly use:
  • 100% of users saw improvement in fine lines & wrinkles
  • 94% of users saw more even skin tone, texture & radiance

My Results:
Careful to follow the package directions, watching for any redness, stinging, burning or discomfort, and happily experiencing none, I tested the Exuviance Performance Peel AP 25 for six weeks. While one would think using an acid peel might be complicated and involved, the Exuviance kit was surprisingly simple!

  • Wash face
  • Apply Step One Activator via a pre loaded towelette, allowing 10 minutes for Activator to work
  • Apply Step Two Neutralizer, again via a separately packaged, pre loaded towelette
  • Apply moisturizer
Even after only one application, I experienced noticeable results: firming, smoothing and pore reduction! At the conclusion of my regime, I was very pleased with the results, not only delivering as promised, but such a quick process that I was easily able to work using the Exuviance Performance Peel into my hectic schedule.

Your worst techy nightmare ~ cRaSh! ~ and how to prevent it!

This post brought to you by Carbonite. All opinions are 100% mine.

I’ll admit it ~
I am absolutely terrible about backing up my computer.
One would think. as a blog editor, but more importantly, as a Mom who stores so much of my family’s activities, schedule and even memories on my computer, that I would commit myself to a regular routine of safely backing up my important files, documents and pictures.
Think again.
Especially after my system crashed a couple of years ago, leaving me in a panic and completely exasperated with myself.
Fortunately, we were able to retrieve most of our lost files, but not without significant “budget pain”, not to mention the huge inconvenience of being without my systems for what seemed like forever!
My excuse ~ there really isn’t a good one.
Backing up my system seems to be doomed to sharing the bottom of my priority list,
Tied for last place along with cleaning out my kitchen catch-all drawer.  (I shudder just to think about that task!)  Meanwhile, the potential for crippling tech failure lurks in the shadows, ready to strike at just the most inconvenient time.

Fellow procrastinators, there is hope for us after all!  I recently discovered a service that backups your system regularly for you!  Better yet, you don’t have to nag it, plead with it or give it the evil Mom eye!  Just sign up and you are golden with automatic computer backups!
Carbonite is a service that continuously backups up your computer files and is active whenever you are online.  Talk about Mommy’s little helper!
The most significant feature of the Carbonite system, to this procrastinator, is the fact that Carbonite is completely automated.  I don’t have to think about it, remember it, feed it or find it’s missing cleat!
Carbonite Unlimited also enables users the convenience of accessing their backed up files from any computer, iPad, or essentially any internet connected devise via the free Carbonite app.
Since it’s inception in 2005, Carbonite has safely recovered over seven billion files!

Procrastinators, rejoice!  You can try Carbonite Unlimited free for 15 days without even registering your credit card.  After you’ve enjoyed the benefits of not thinking about Carbonite as it tolls away for you, you can also take advantage of two months of free service if you sign up for a year of service for only $59.
A great price for piece of mind!

Just mention the savings code BLOGAD when you sign up and receive 2 months of free service!

Will the Courageous ~ A Story About Sexual Abuse ~ Review

As my family seeks to heal and move forward from my daughter's tragic violation,
we continue to struggle with our pain and rage.

Nearly a year has passed,
yet it is all too raw.

I've accepted that this experience will always be with us, changed us.
It has colored our lives
in shades of angry crimson
that I can only hope will fade
in time.

As I struggle to find something, anything, to create a wider, brighter path out of this dark despair,
I am reminded of all those beyond my family who were affected.

The sordid news spread virally, through several school districts and three college campuses, by word, text and social media sites,  so torturous initially.  Yet, now has served as an education of sorts, one that may save another girl from the same fate.

As I explore positive avenues to channel my anguish, I am drawn time and again to promote more aggressive education and awareness of sexual abuse and assault.  Along this vein, I am pleased to introduce my readers to juvenile fiction title from author Amy Barth, addressing sexual abuse in children,

Will the Courageous ~ A Story About Sexual Abuse.

Written in an non-aggressive style with language that will be easily understandable by early elementary aged children, this book is an excellent resource for parents, educators, care givers, medical personnel; virtually anyone who interacts with children.

Will the Courageous outlines the experience of Will, a six year old boy, who encounters a sexual predator at day care.  Within the context of the story, Barth presents a common sexual predator methodology, warning signs of abuse, as well as diagnosis of sexual abuse during an office visit.

Will is a typical six-yer-old boy: he loves to tell "knock-knock" jokes, collect bugs and play with other kids.  On most school days, Will goes to Nana Winnie's until his mom returns from work.  Will enjoys having his Nana as a babysitter.  Recently, Nana's cousin Perry has come to visit and suddenly Will no longer wants to go there.  He starts having nightmares, acting out in school and wetting his bed.  Will's parents are worried.  What is wrong with Will?
The character, Will, is presented as one any child might relate to. Barth's story, combined with the bright, full color illustrations of Richa Kinra provides an excellent way to explore the subject of "good touch, bad touch" with young children, as well as potentially laying a more comfortable path for a child to share an uncomfortable experience.

As uncomfortable as this topic is, the statistics indicate that all children need to be educated about appropriate touching, in an age appropriate manner, and to trust their internal alarms.  Will the Courageous ~ A Story About Sexual Abuse is an excellent resource for accomplishing this difficult task.

Childhood Abuse Statistics:

It is estimated that there are 60 million survivors of childhood sexual abuse in America today.
Source: Forward, 1993
Prevent Abuse Now

In 2009, approximately 3.3 million child abuse reports and allegations were made involving an estimated 6 million children.  7.9% are victims of sexual abuse.  A report of child abuse is made every 10 seconds.
Source:  Child Help

With child abuse, and especially sexual abuse of children, being historically under reported, this 7.6%, or nearly 500, 000 cases is likely significantly lower than the true number of victims.

For advice on appropriate response if a child discloses an abusive sexual encounter, professional advise is available at American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Author, Amy Barth, is the founder of the Safe Girls Strong Girls, whose mission is "committed to breaking the silence of Childhood Sexual Abuse and giving girls their voices back".

Purchase this book,
whether as your own resource, for someone you know, for your school, for your church,
from Amazon.

I received a copy of this book to explore for the purposes of creating this feature, through my association with Parent Reviewers.  The opinions above are both honest and my own.

The Six Most Important Tips For Keeping Your Teeth White For Life ~ Plus White

Keep your smile shining bright
with these six great tips from Plus White!

1. Recognize the foods that can stain your teeth. Cherries, blueberries, raspberries and soy sauce all can    leave their mark on teeth.

2. Be aware of the beverages that can discolor your teeth. Coffee, tea, wine can do their damage over time. Even beer can cause problems (it's acidic and attacks the enamel).

3. Remember that some minerals are good for your health but can be bad for your teeth. Fluoride is considered good for your teeth, but if you ingest too much it can cause white spots on your teeth. Some mouthwashes with chloride can cause a yellowing of the teeth when used too frequently.

4.   Read the warning label on prescription medications that can change tooth color.  Some antibiotics can affect your smile. Tetracycline, often given to teenagers for acne, can turn young  teeth grey or yellow. Minocycline is known to cause a permanent bluish–gray stain in adults.  There are even some over-the-counter antihistamines that can discolor teeth – read the warning label and ask your druggist.

5.   Smoking can really dim your smile. Cigarettes, cigars, pipes and chewing tobacco will, over time, stain your teeth darker.

6. Oral care is good for your smile as well as your health. Brush often, with a good toothpaste. Clean your tongue to get rid of bacteria and freshen your breath. Floss and irrigate your teeth and gums to
minimize the risk of gum disease. And make sure you visit your dentist for regular exams, x-rays and cleanings at least twice a year.

Keep these tips in mind. If your teeth are already stained, use the Plus White 5 Minute Speed Whitening Kit to get them whiter at home – it's fast, easy, and affordable! Then use Plus White Xtra Whitening Toothpaste to keep your teeth white and bright!

Sparkly, White Smile Affordably ~ Plus White Review & Giveaway

What is the culprit or vice that is stealing the white from your smile?

Your morning cup of coffee (and the next one and the next one)?
Tea?  Soda?

Maybe it's one of your healthy diet choices that is dimming your (once) pearly whites, like delicious, fresh picked berries.

For most of us, our regular diets contain smile dimming culprits, even some of our medications.  As for myself, my culprits are tea, berries, allergy medications, as well as an occasional glass of wine.  My smile really needed a dazzle intervention!

There's no question that a healthy, white smile can make a significant contribution to one's overall appearance.

Fortunately, there are alternatives to expensive dental office procedures that can dramatically boost your smile to dazzling right at home.  With results evident after the first five minute treatment, Plus White can add the sparkle you seek, reaching full benefits in as little as two weeks!

Plus White offers a full line of teeth whitening products to help you reach your full smile whitening potential.  With a wide range of  whitening options, including a formula especially designed for those with sensitive teeth, as well as special whitening toothpastes, there is a Plus White product perfect for helping you face the world with a bright, beautiful smile!

I was given an opportunity to test the Plus White 5 Minute Speed Whitening System.

In as little as five minutes, right at home, you can begin to take advantage of the same process dentists use (oxygenating action) to gently but effectively lift away stains. Now, with the bleaching power of Plus White, whitening will begin to work with the first application and you'll see whiter and brighter teeth within days!

This easy-to-use system includes:

  • Plus White Tartar Control Pre-Whitening Rinse helps remove film and loosen stains from your teeth, enabling the Gel to lift away stains even more effectively.
  • Plus White 5 Minute Speed Whitening Gel now with bleaching power for fast, effective whitening and brightening.
  • Comfortable Mouthpiece with a double-sided tray that whitens top and bottom teeth at the same time for faster results and better whitening.

Using the Plus White 5 Minute Speed Whitening System was easy!

First, you prep your teeth for brilliance with the pre-whitening rinse.  A teaspoon of the rinse, mixed with a couple teaspoons of lukewarm water.  Swish and rinse out.

Next, you add a small amount (really, small amount or you'll be foaming!) of whitening gel to the mouth tray.  You can control which teeth get the glamming treatment by only placing gel in the areas of the tray that correspond to your "problem" teeth.  Front teeth only, full upper set or upper and lower can all be treated at the same time.

Place the mouth tray in your mouth, bite down gently but firmly and leave in place for 5 minutes for mild needs or up to 10-15 minutes for tackling a more challenged smile.

That's it!  Just rinse mouth and tray with lukewarm water after the application, taking care to not swallow any whitening gel and let the mouth tray air dry.

The instructions recommend to treat your teeth twice per day for two weeks and taper off to one or two applications per week after that to maintain your pearlier whites.

My results:
Honestly, I was really skeptical that I would see any results after only one application, but there was definitely a noticeable difference!  After a week, I was dazzling not only myself, but the rest of my family as well!  I was really pleased with the results.

Whether you need a dazzle intervention or just a bit of assistance, Plus White offers fantastic products at affordable prices so you get whiten up your smile and not break the budget while doing so!

Five Signs That You May Need Glasses ~ Glasses USA

Five Signs That You May Need Glasses

 1)  Hello, 40.  Hello, glasses.

Now while I may not know anything about being 40

(my mother claimed 29 and as I didn't think there was a snowball's chance I could get away with 26, I claimed 34)

apparently, so I've read, aside from the trauma of just being in your 40's, there is a whole laundry list of exciting things to look forward to:

  • slowing metabolism - a gal has to exercise at least one hour per day just to maintain her current weight!
  • perimenopause  - that's right, ladies!  As if we've not been through enough, there's a reason why you are easily annoyed, tired and downright crabby!
  • deteriorating eyesight - while this could be Mother Nature's humor, saving us from being able to witness the "exciting" changes happening to our bodies, apparently one's eyesight is scheduled for automatic shut down, starting at 40.  Just as well, since many of us have seen enough!
  • natural hair highlights - as a brunette who gets blonde, gold and red highlights from the sun, the fact that I have not yet broken down and gotten eyeglasses allows me, in certain light, to fool myself into thinking that the rapidly multiplying grey in my hair is just extra blonde!
2)   Ahhh!  Too Close!
No matter what the document, when your child comes home with papers, whether from school, sports or other activity, if they are 10 or younger, when you ask to see the papers, they respond by placing them an inch or less from your nose, resulting in a disconcerting, dizzying blur, not unlike an unsettling flashback to some best forgotten college days.

3)  Your Arms Are Shrinking.
Whether you are curled up in your favorite reading chair or reviewing a document at work, you find that you just can't quite hold the reading material as far away as you once could, in that one sweet spot where the words didn't blend together.

4)  You Find Yourself Drawn to Commercials for Glasses and Ads for Glasses Online.
While you usually find yourself hopping up at commercial time during your favorite show to start a load of laundry, you find your inner self is honing in with great interest on all things glasses related.  Fortunately for you, your inner self is highly motivated to assist you from walking into walls.

5)  You Find Yourself Rummaging Through Your Child's Science Kit For The Magnifying Glass.
That's it!  If you are guilty of grabbing the magnifying glass to read the small print on packages, you are out of excuses!   You need to order glasses!

Fortunately, Glasses USA makes this process as painless on you and your purse as possible!  Beyond high-quality lenses and frames, you can shop with confidence, as Glasses USA offers:
  • 100% satisfaction guarantee
  • 110% lowest price guarantee

Nervous about ordering online?  No need!

Where's my phone? New App for Sprint Customers to the rescue!

This post brought to you by Sprint. All opinions are 100% mine.
Isn't it always when we are under the time crunch when we lose our phones?
On the way out the door,

in a rush to work, school or an important event,
but where did I leave the phone?
We've found ours in all sorts of interesting places, after intensive full-family searches:
in the laundry,
in the freezer,
even at the bottom of the pool!
If you are a sprint customer and you take advantage of their Total Equipment Protection Program, you'll want to check out the new app that is exclusively available for current users to download FREE until August 30th!
If you didn't initially sign up for the Total Equipment Protection Plan when you first received your Sprint phone, you're in luck!  Sprint is offering an open enrollment period which started on August 1st and ends on August 30th.
I can't tell you what a lifesaver the TEP plan is; we have it for all our phones!  For a modest $50 or $100 deductible, depending on which phone you have to replace, you are covered!  When my daughter's phone was found at the bottom of our pool, courtesy of  Mr. Furry, she was back up and running in 24 hours, thanks to an easily filed claim!  I was happy to pay the deductible, compared to the cost of replacing the phone at full price!

While you are signing up for this great service, available for only $8.00 a month, you can also download the Sprint Total Equipment Protection App at no additional cost.  This fantastic app allows users to:
  • find misplaced phones with audible alarm

Based on one of the most talked about books in years and a #1 New York Times best-selling phenomenon,  “The Help” stars Emma Stone (“Easy A”) as Skeeter, Academy Award®–nominated Viola Davis (“Doubt”) as Aibileen and Octavia Spencer as Minny—three very different, extraordinary women in Mississippi during the 1960s,  who build an unlikely friendship around a secret writing project that breaks societal rules and puts them all at risk. From their improbable alliance a remarkable sisterhood emerges, instilling all of them with the courage to transcend the lines that define them, and the realization that sometimes those lines are made to be crossed—even if it means bringing everyone in town face-to-face with the changing times.
I plan to assemble my girl crew ~ my daughter, my sister and my niece ~ and have an inspired evening of quality, thought-provoking entertainment.
And chocolate treats!

Take The Edge Off Your Day With Humor ~ 25 Adult Truths

Having one of those days? I am.

Earlier today, I received an SOS text from my school parent network about an emergency School Board Meeting. Oh, lovely. It seems every day, there is just more outrageous, bad budget news.

This particular text set me off ~ giggling. I giggled all day.
As soon as I thought I had my fits of humor squelched, another more ludicrous thought would come to mind.

So giggling, to the point of crying, I went through my day, with no hope, whatsoever, of taking anything seriously!

"School Board Meeting tonight at 7pm - we need everyone to come and support the high school principal in his effort to save his job!"

Seriously? (You can imagine the look on my face) The budget crisis is so bad now that we are just going to "roll" this year without a high school principal? Ahhh, what did he actually do anyway? We don't need him!

For that matter, the students have books, don't they? Who needs teachers?
We'll just keep a custodian and a cafeteria worker on staff.

Oh, to heck with that.
We'll just give each student a book,
a roll of toilet paper,
a jar of peanut butter
and slap them on the back and wish them good luck.

In all seriousness, if you are fortunate enough to reside in a region, state or school district that is not currently under a crippling budget crisis, thank your lucky stars, dig your heels in and don't move anywhere!

While you are thanking your lucky stars, I challenge you to come up with a use for your tax dollars that is not as important as funding education. If you can't, please reach out to your local, state and national representatives and tell them so! (If you are in a educational budget challenged area, for pete's sake stop reading this and go shoot off some strongly worded emails!)

In truth, I must admit that the emergency meeting and situation with the high school principal is apparently not budget related. However, what a sad state of affairs that my initial assumption led me to that conclusion.

After arriving home from the emergency meeting, I found a wonderful surprise in my inbox. A humorous collection of "Adult Truths", author unknown, forwarded by my younger sister. It was just what I needed to get me right back into giggling mode again.

~ 25 Adult Truths ~

1. I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.
2. Nothing is worse than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.
3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.
4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.
5. How the heck are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?
6. Was learning cursive really necessary?
7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on # 5. I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.
8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.
9. I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.
10. Bad decisions make good stories.
11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.
12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection...again.
13. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page technical report that I swear I did not make any changes to.
14. I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know no tto answer when they call.
15. I think the freezer deserves a light as well.
16. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night, more kisses begin with Miller Lite than Kay.
17. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
18. I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.
19. How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear or understand a word they said?
20. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers and sisters!
21. Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever..
22. Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.
23. Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time.
24. People who forward e- mails without deleting the tons of previous recipients should be shot and then tarred and feathered.
25. The first testicular guard, the "Cup," was used in Hockey in 1874and the first helmet was used in 1974. That means it only took 100years for men to realize that their brain is also important. Ladies quit laughing!
