Tapena Wines ~ Add A Fresh Taste of Summer to your Outdoor Entertaining

Summer means food, friends and outdoor entertaining.
I've been attending so many events hosted by friends and family recently I've not had time to host anyone at home.

We are on hold temporarily from hosting.
Although the pool is blue and inviting, my husband is doing some much needed work to our outdoor living space, with some long awaited landscaping scheduled as soon as he's done.

Even so, with the bulk of the work now complete, I can start planning dates and menus for outdoor entertaining.

While most of our gatherings involve lots of kids and pool splashing, my husband and I do manage to squeeze a few casual dinners for just the adults!  We love kicking back with friends, catching up on everyone's latest news, with great food and a bottle or two of wine.

I've recently discovered a tasteful line of Spanish wines ~ Tapena, and am looking forward to planning a menu including Tapena's Verdejo.

This pale yellow hued wine has a vibrant nose with an array of aromas of tropical fruits over a backdrop of ripe peaches. The palate is full of bright stone fruit that is beautifully balanced with a crisp, refreshing acidity and a lingering finish with a hint of minerality.

Planning a summer menu for entertaining that will blend deliciously with Verdejo will be easy!  Tapena offers delectable recipe suggestions right on their blog!

Whether you need a great wine to add flair to your entertaining event or are looking for the perfect host gift for an event you attend, Tapena offers four enticing Spanish Wines that will be welcome at any occasion or on any table.

Thanks to Walt Disney Motion Picture Studios for compiling this race-tastic list of family activities and crafts!  I have not received any compensation for creating this feature ~ I'm just such a fan of both Disney and Cars!  The opinions expressed above are both honest and my own.  Information and images provided by Walt Disney Motion Picture Studios.

Sorry! Sliders Disney Pixar Cars 2 Edition Game Review & Giveaway

While we welcome the lazy days of school break at my house, we are always looking for fun kid games and activities for summertime.  I also have three nephews with summer birthdays, so finding great gifts for boys is also high on my list.

When you find a kids game featuring the hottest new movie, you know you've found a winner on both counts!

As you might imagine, my "in house" toy testing crew was thrilled to be given the job of reviewing the Sorry! Sliders Disney Pixar Cars 2 Edition Game from Hasbro!

The experts' view:
Cars 2 Sorry! Sliders is super cool!  I've played regular Sorry! and like that game, but this one is so much better!  The board is a racetrack!  I like how the guys (playing pieces) have Cars face on them.  My favorite guy is Lightening McQueen.  The really fun part about Cars 2 Sorry! Sliders is that you are actually racing the other cars.  You also get to pick where to put the obstacles. If you play this game a lot, you might want to put some padding on your flicking finger.

Mom's view:
I thought this game was wonderful.  We do have a regular edition Sorry! game, as well as a Disney Princess edition, but Hasbro really revved up the racing theme for the Cars 2 edition!  Even though the racetrack is very detailed, it actually is only comprised of eight pieces that were easy to assemble.  I liked the ability to customize the race track with plenty of options for placing obstacles.  Like my son, after a full game or two of enthusiastic racing (and flicking!) my flicker finger was feeling it.  I do recommend arming yourself for the big race with a bit of padding to keep your racing with the best of them.  A character bandage would make fantastic racing "gear"!

But the road to the championship is filled with plenty of potholes, detours and hilarious surprises when Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage.  Mater finds himself torn between assisting Lightning McQueen in the high-profile race...

and towing the line in a top-secret mission orchestrated by master British super spy Finn McMissile (voice of Michael Caine) and the stunning rookie field spy Holley Shiftwell (voice of Emily Mortimer).

Entertaining In Style with Home Bar Furniture

My husband and I really enjoy entertaining at home.
Food, friends, laughs.
Occasionally, good drink.

I enjoy the preparations for our gatherings.
Planning new party menus, with dishes to dazzle.
Dressing the table, with my favorite pieces.

While our formal dining room is quite large, when we host guest, I often find myself wishing for just one more serving surface.   With that in mind, I've been keeping my eye open for Home Bar Furniture.  Moving my stemware to a bar would free up much needed space in my china cabinet, as well as provide the perfect place to hold our Bar Accessories for our home.

I am quite taken with the idea of a Folding Home Bar, and have my eye on a piece in Cherry Crosley.

The flexibility is wonderful, providing both storage and an expanding serving surface.
What more could a hostess ask for!  Certainly, my in house bar keeping husband would love to show off his mixology skills, at this bar!

Crosley Newport Expandable Bar in Classic Cherry

Having the right home entertaining pieces means I can spend less time juggling while serving my guests and more time enjoying them!

Tell me some of your favorite entertaining recipes or a funny story from your entertaining adventures!  I'd love to hear them!

The opinions above are both honest and my own.

Second Chance ~ Book for Children ~ Review & Giveaway

Second Chance ~
How Adoption Saved A Boy With Autism and His Shelter Dog
author ~ Sandra J Gerencher
publisher ~ Tribute Books

With the lazy summer months upon us, this Mom believes there is no activity more important to maintain than reading.

While my elementary age son is free to choose his own reading material, I am careful to ensure that he has plenty of quality books for children available in his browsing library.   I am certain to include educational books for kids on topics that he will find appealing.

Second Chance is such a book, not only touching a subject near and dear to our family's heart, homeless pets, but also encouraging understanding regarding Autism, which leads to broader perspective, tolerance and kindness.  The theme of adoption, both of the two-legged and four-legged "child" variety, provides further opportunity for meaningful follow-up conversations with your young reader.

Second Chance is recommended as a PBS non-fiction selection on the topic of adoption.

I thoroughly enjoyed exploring Second Chance with my son, as well my teen daughter.  Beyond reading the book together, the discussions we had afterward were priceless.

Author Sandra J. Gerencher's personal story is simply inspirational.  A champion of last chance shelter dogs, her spirit of giving extended to adopting her son, Terry, a child with the genetic disorder, Fragile X Syndrome.

In keeping with this sharing, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this book are donated to the Humane Society.

Spark the spirit in your family and support homeless pets via the Humane Society by purchasing your own copy of Second Chance from Tribute Books.

Adding Style to Your Living Room Decor

Inheriting my Grandmother's piano means it's time to rethink our living room furniture arrangement.

We have a fairly new living room set , with power reclining, which my husband absolutely adores!

However, they are bit more casual and comfy than I prefer for our formal living room and would be perfect in our downstairs den, where our kids do most of their entertaining and where most of the sleepovers are hosted.

Distinction Leather Concord Sectional

With our new arrangement, I really think the flow would work best with the addition of a Sectional Sofa for our Living Room.

The earthy color scheme in our living room, combined with my desire to boost the level of style, I am convinced a Distinction Leather Sofa , with a wide variety of finishes, would be a perfect choice!

Although, I have to admit that the Distinction Beaumont sofa looks so inviting, with it's old world styling and plush design!   Coordinating a room around it's charm would be a treat.  With over 24 different finishes to choose from, I can select the exact look I desire.

The opinions above are both honest and my own.
