Top Ten Foods You Should Never Feed To Your Dog

Having recently made a delicious, homemade birthday cake for our furry boy's third birthday party, with most of the ingredients coming from our pantry, what better time to share the foods you should never feed to your beloved pooch!

While this list is in no way all inclusive, the following foods should always be avoided as they can be dangerous for your pet.  Note:  As with most health concerns, there are often wide ranges of opinions on the topic of what is safe or not safe for dogs.  When in doubt, please research and consult with your veterinarian.

Top Ten Foods You Should Never Feed To A Dog

  • Chocolate or any other products containing caffeine - caro is a safe alternative
  • Citrus fruits or pits from fruit
  • Grapes and Raisins
  • Onions  - in any form
  • Mushrooms
  • Garlic - in any form
  • Yeast Dough
  • Persimmons
  • Avocados
  • Macadamia Nuts
While some pets are tolerant of dairy products, even benefiting from dairy sources, such as lofat plain yogurt and lofat cottage cheese, the affect of dairy products on dogs can vary widely.  While our furry boy is extremely dairy tolerant, some dogs may develop diarrhea after ingesting larger quantities.

The opinions and experiences above are both honest and my own.

Thank you for letting me know! The idea makes me nervous, as I don't feed my family raw meats or eggs, but its certainly something I'll investigate! :) My curiosity is piqued!

My dad gave Rio some chocolate recently (a very small amount) and we griped at him. Chocolate is not for dogs! we said.

I had never heard garlic before. We give our dogs garlic as a natural flea repellent. The vet told us it was Ok. I have to look into this. That is scary..thanks

Isn't dog owning so complicated? I had a husky/retriever that could literally eat anything and so I didn't learn a lot of this until getting my "new" dog over a year ago. He tries to eat anything he can fit in his mouth so we have to be so careful. Thanks for sharing this list! :)
