The mood at home is one of excited anticipation, with my children's last day of school tomorrow. The Teen Diva has been hard at work for weeks, preparing for her all important junior year finals. Conversely, my 11 yr old son's daily work has been dwindling with each passing day. Without a doubt, they have both been counting the days, and now, the hours until the last jubilant bell, releasing them into their summer adventures.
Breaking The Routine
Without a doubt, breaking the bedtime and allowing for safe yet fun night time adventure is always tops on the kids' list of fun. Whether an evening pool party or a backyard camping adventure, complete with adult supervised bon fire, exploring the other side of school day bed time is a special treat for children and parents alike.
Expedition Near You
Whether you provide a guided expedition of adventure for your child at a local park, on a hiking trail or at the zoo, a quick study of the outdoor resources in your community will reveal a wide number of new outings to enjoy with your children this summer. From day trips to your community parks and outdoor recreation areas, to day use of campgrounds or lazy trips down a local waterway, a small amount of imagination and taking clues from your child's interest can turn a a fun day trip into an exciting and educational adventure.
Let Their Imagination Be Your Guide
Encouraging your child's imagination can open the door to all manner of fun, related activities for your family. A batch of cookies becomes dinosaur snacks. A craft project becomes a new mode of transportation. A family hike becomes an exploration of a land and time long ago. Create theme weeks and feed your child's curiosity with a trip to the library for books on their favorite subject, art projects and more.
Include Time To Unwind
Young and old, all imagination adventurers need some time to wind down after their busy days. A healthy snack, an indoor fort and a fun family movie are the perfect ingredients to do just that. Warner Bros' Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, just released on DVD and Blu-Ray on June 5th, is a wonderful family adventure movie to share together! Go beyond the screen with this adventure packed movie by exploring the fun Journey 2 activities below, such as the Decoder Map, Would You Survive quiz or Spin to Download Activities!
While this Mom is happy to let them enjoy a summer that is not filled to the brim with structure and schedule, to allow them a respite from our hectic school year on the go routine, I do like to help them find fun new things to explore and do, beyond our vacation outings. A combination educational and purely fun activities makes for the perfect summer adventures for kids mix.

My summertime adventure were our summer camping and hiking trips. I loved that my parents took me camping every summer and my dad didn't like camping in campgrounds so I have seen areas which a lot of people do not get to see. Like a sea of green trees without a road in sighte.

As a kid, we would ride our bikes around town and explore. The things we saw and did... now that was adventure! I feel sorry for my kids for not having that kind of freedom!
Summertime plans: go on a few picnics, explore the mountains and forest, go swimming, and do some reading.
We would play a game in the dark that we made up that was a combination of hide and seek and dodge ball.

we continued the same work as during the school year (house and restaurant) but during the summer added more work like harvesting garden and wild foodstuffs making hay canning for the winter. maybe as a treat my parents would let us go out for a day with grandpa and go fishing to catch fish to eat that day and freeze for later. we never went on formal vacations like kids do now, even though we were very well off
i am a timid trekker i have had enough of the outdoors and now vacations are at only resorts. you cannot pay me enough to do any of those things
