Landscaping ~ Trees For Brilliant Fall Color

If your spring season is as busy as this Mom's, with countless trips to and fro the sports field and attending other spring kid activities, you may have missed the ideal window for planting deciduous trees in your yard.  Despite spending time researching the perfect new additions to our landscape over the winter season, spring often flies by by I have an opportunity to arrange for new additions to our landscape.

Although those in southern states are granted a broader window of opportunity for adding new trees and shrubs, in the regions of the country that experience freezing winter temperatures, the ideal time to plant trees is limited to spring and autumn.  Before the ground hardens with early frosts, now is the perfect time to make good on plans to add trees and shrubs to your landscape.

Landscaping Tip
If even you miss the ideal spring planting time for adding new trees and shrubs to your landscape, take advantage of the softer soil of summer to plan your additions and prepare planting holes. Trees will fair best when planted during their dormant season.  Purchase and bed your new trees when the autumn air cools.

When selecting trees, consider not only how these new additions will add to your landscape in the green of summer, rather also blend an assortment of trees that will grace your yard with blooms in spring and vibrant colors in the fall.  Varying trees and shrubs in height and color can create a delightful natural palette to the look and feel of your outdoor areas.

Landscaping Tip
No matter which season you add trees to your landscape, be sure to keep them watered with moist soil for the first several weeks, taking care not to over or under water.  Remove grass from around the base of your new tree, up to 12" in diameter and fill area with mulch to help maintain a moist soil.

No trees are being added this year. I am trying to get rid of some of the ones we have before they fall on our house!

I haven't seen the fall in five years. I forget what it's like to have the trees turn

These are such pretty pictures. We bought our house recently and it is up against forest land. I think that it will be pretty when the leaves change, but I have no idea what we are in for when the leaves start to drop!

That's the one thing I miss living in SC is the whole fall colors thing... we get fall colors for two days before our leaves drop and brown -usually in mid January... otherwise it's green all year round!

GORGEOUS! I live on the woods/wetlands so I don't bother trying to clean it up, it would be a losing battle, LOL! I let nature take its course and enjoy the woodsy look. :)

I’ve learned a lot about garden maintenance Perth that is why I now have a beautiful garden at home. That first picture is one of my favorite because of its sweltering color.
