Mom Moments ~ Back To School Reflections

With the kids back to school this week, I find as Mom I am back to that familiar bittersweet place.  Filled with the awkward combination of burgeoning pride of the young adults they have seemingly become overnight, excited with the anticipation of where their passions and ambitions will take them, mixed with the melancholy loss of those days filled with little shoes and so many pressing, important questions.

Why does Rex wag his tail?
What is the squirrel saying, Mommy?

Blended with those, oh, so precious memories and giggles shared.  Intertwined into my own private view of precious days and fleeting moments.

The nervous excitement of the very first day of school.
Beaming faces and little hands bearing creations of glue and determination.

While they welcome the new day and look to the future, this Mom takes just a bit of time, snuggling into the comfort of that favorite blanket, a favorite book nearby yet left unopened, to look through the autumn morning sun, beyond into the past.

As the mom of a daughter who's far away at college and telling me she's lost one of her new tennis shoes and a son who seems to be determined to forget to turn in his homework, my back to school reflections are a little more frustrated. lol

It's definitely crazy and bittersweet how fast time goes!

Yeah...my reflection is not so deep. My morning all start with ripping and running and don't really stop until the last kid conks out for the night. I'm more apt to reflect on lost summer nights and late mornings ;)

Awe, they do grow quickly. I'm trying to enjoy my toddler before he grows up.

I'm both lucky and sometimes cursed that I have one still at home :) He's had the toughest adjustment to his brother and sister heading back to school...

Aw, such a touching post. It's crazy how it flies by, but they will always be back!

Time flies and then you get to relive new memories with the grand kids.
