Saving Photo Memories & Milestone Photo Gifts

The children seem to be growing, quite literally, before my eyes.  I am quite convinced my son gains inches while he sleeps.  Perhaps this uncomfortable Mom view is due to the fact that he, at the ripe old age of eleven, now looks down to meet this Mom's eyes.  Even more exciting, yet unsettling is the simple truth that the Teen Diva has begun her senior year of high school.   Even after a summer filled of talk of which university to choose and campus visits, the reality of this bold new step still shocks me to the core.  I take a modest amount of comfort in knowing I am not alone, as I commiserate with my Mom connections, regaling each other while sharing moments and photo memories.

Summer Memories, Lake Michigan Sunset, Great Lakes Vacation

I have to admit, my collection of memories is in a bit of disarray, with video to CD transfer yet to be arranged, an eclectic mix of both digital and old school photo waiting patiently for me to combine them into some manner of cohesion and chronology.  Before my own memory begins to fail, sorting through all our family memories is project I have admittedly been putting off because it is such a daunting task.  A task that simply expands with each passing year as more special photos are taken and added to our collection.

Special Moments, Special Photos, Girl and Butterfly

I fear I won't be able to put the task off for much longer.  My sister, her aunt, has long been planning to create a gift album of special photos to present to my daughter for her high school graduation.  Her requests for likely candidates for the collection grows increasingly insistent with mere months left before graduation.  As much as I appreciate the gesture and know what a touching gift this will be for my daughter, I have to wonder about my reticence to begin my part of the task.

Are your photos organized?
What are your tips for keeping up with this challenging task?
Tell me in a comment below!  I'd love to hear your thoughts!

The opinions above are both honest and of my own experiences.  Please see my disclosure policy.

My photos are not organized. I keep saying I am going to do it, but keep putting it off.

I was JUST having this conversation with my grandma recently. I told her I gave up organizing my photos in the '90s, and I was only half-joking, LOL. I have BOXES full of snapshots, not only my own but many heirloom, historical family photos that I've inherited from all sides of my family. Someday I want to have everything better organized and scan some of the really interesting ones to share with the rest of my family. There are some old photos of distant, great-great-grandparents and such that show people who I can't identify, so I want to find out as much as I can about the pics from the rest of my family so I can jot it down as I feel it is important for family history. Now, I just a vacation to do this during. LOL!!

I used to be really good with my photos. Then came the digital age and a few more kids. Now I have boxes or unorganized photos all over and haven't printed a single pic in over a year.

My photos were organized when my baby was a newborn, but then they have been scattered since! Love your post and agree that they grow quickly!

We've almost finished digitizing our entire photo collection and most of them have been uploaded to drop box for safe keeping! Love online folders!

I love that you posted this because it reminds me to get going on this stuff. We have two years worth of overseas living and traveling that we've done nothing with and I keep saying we HAVE to get this done! Good luck with yours. :)

I am horrible with pictures. I need to organize them. Just when I think I started to get things organized I was hacked two times and then I got a new laptop and spilled coffee on it and lost everything!! I am not too organized like I used to be with everything!! Oh well, I am going to start trying again!! Rita Spratlen rjspratlen@gmail.com
