Three Year Surviversary ~ Speaking Out And Saying No More

Feeling as yesterday
yet deep in our past,
all at once,
we mark the three year Surviversary,
of the terrible, black day
my daughter was assaulted.

With meager satisfaction,
this date looms over us
each year
in a lesser degree.

Less smothering,
less emotionally crippling,
it remains
the most bitter of days.

Looking back
with a numbness,
it is miraculous
that we survived.

Survived
soul-wrenching anguish,
fallen knee defeat,
crimson rage,
injustice.

Powerless.
Impotent.
Weak.

Yet,
through the pain
waiting just below the surface,
to rear its violent head,
is strength.

The strength
gathered by standing up,
captured by raging against the wrong.
carried by the angry words speaking out,
passed on to a sister in pain.

The strength to survive.

Such a beautiful poem - thank you for sharing. It is amazing how many suffer in silence. So many victims think they are alone - how sad.
