Reflections Of Thanks

Most holidays, I find I am blessed beyond measure. My family is whole, healthy and safe.

My mother still hosts our primary holiday gatherings, gifting the family with her skill and grace, baring the burden and privilege, treating her children as well as our own to the comfort of her familiar home.  I merely need to rally my family for the short trek, in itself, occasionally a minor feat, and be present to enjoy the bounty of her table, and the wealth of a full family gathering.

While a large portion of our family lives within a short drive, our everyday lives lend to less frequent visits than one might imagine. Certainly much less often than is ideal, we are graced with a visit from the south.  My youngest sister traveling back with her family to our epicenter, our root through the challenges of life, my parent's home.

How many days, months have past since our last gathering?  No doubt, too many.  Yet.
The comfort is immediate, the familiarity unbroken by the distance and time.  Understanding, beyond the word.  Ease, the sort only born of the deepest relationship.  Healing, as only the whole might accomplish.

Time has stopped for us.  For a moment just long enough, to heal the heart and bridge the distance, leaving us both stronger in spirit, in the secret smiles of sisterhood.

On this special day of reflection, I am thankful for my sister.

Wonderful reflections and I am fortunate to have wonderful family as well. Those that we did not see I called and found myself reflecting on my many blessings.

What a sweet post... This time of the year always makes me miss my family... but I did count my blessings and loved every second of the day with my "extended US" family.
