After converting to doing most of my holiday shopping online a few years ago out of necessity due to my family's perpetually demanding schedule, I fell in love with the ease, convenience and variety of gifts I discovered. Although I still shop in store when time allows, I am most likely to shop at local stores, rather than big box stores as the variety seems to be so similar from one physical chain store to the next.
Beyond the convenience of not trolling the parking lot for a parking space just to fight crowds of shoppers to find a poorly stocked shelf or selection, shopping online with retailers such as Amazon.com provides the lovely benefit of shipping gifts directly to my recipient. Of course, presenting gifts in person is preferred but there have often been years when the blustery weather along Lake Michigan has delayed trips to Chicago to visit my grandmother and I have wanted to send a gift ahead for her to enjoy until we are able to connect personally, often weeks later.
Certainly, more often than not, Christmas gifts are shipped to my sister's family in Alabama. While she often travels back to Michigan for Thanksgiving, I am rarely coordinated enough to have gifts ready for her that early in the season. With three children in addition to my sister and brother in law, I would rather let Amazon ship my packages than try to lug the lot to ship or try to find a box to fit all the gifts within. In fact, most of my purchase at Amazon are shipped for free with their special shipping offers, saving more of my holiday budget for actually purchasing gifts, rather than going toward a hefty shipping charge.

I do 99% of my holiday shopping online. I hate heading to the stores during the holiday season.
